Busia County Russian Cultural Workshops - March 2025
Objectives
The Busia workshops were designed to introduce learners and educators to Russian language, traditions, and education pathways while listening carefully to the priorities of each school community.
What Happened
The team worked with St. Peter's Busibi Girls Secondary School, Bishop Hannington Khuduru Primary School, and ACK St. Paul's Primary School. Sessions included Russian language basics, cultural presentations, Q&A with students, school facility tours, and gift exchanges.
Key Moments
At St. Peter's Busibi, the discussion highlighted mentorship needs for girls facing poverty and early pregnancy risks. At Bishop Hannington Khuduru, the team saw a school serving pupils near the Uganda border while still lacking classrooms, water, a library, and a feeding programme.
Why It Mattered
The visit showed that cultural exchange can be a practical entry point into deeper educational support. The strongest next steps are mentorship, basic learning facilities, feeding support, and partnerships that help these schools turn student curiosity into lasting opportunity.
